கழுத்து நெரிக்கப்பட்டு கொலை செய்யப்பட்ட ஒன்பது வயது சிறுமியின் உடலை போர்வையால் சுருட்டி பாயினை கொண்டு கட்டி சாக்கடையில் வீசி அதன் மீது குப்பை சருகுகளை கொட்டி மது கடைக்கு சென்று நிதானமாக குடித்து இருக்கிறான் 57 வயது நிரம்பிய விவேகானந்தன். இந்த கொலையை அவன் மட்டும் செய்யவில்லை 19 வயது நிரம்பிய கருணாஸ் என்பவனும் சேர்ந்து இந்த படுபாதக செயலில் ஈடுபட்டு இருக்கிறான். கடந்த 2 மார்ச் 2024 அன்று காணாமல் போன சிறுமியின் சடலம் நான்கு நாட்கள் கடந்து 6 மார்ச் அன்று கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டது. பாண்டிச்சேரி சோலை நகரில் நடந்த இந்த சம்பவம் கடும் அதிர்ச்சியை ஏற்படுத்தி இருக்கிறது.
ஆதிதிராவிடர் – பறையர் சமூகத்தை சேர்ந்த நாராயணன் – மைதிலியின் இளைய மகள் அரசு ஆரம்ப நிலை பள்ளிக்கூடம் ஒன்றில் 5-ம் வகுப்பு படித்து வருகிறாள். படிப்பிலும் விளையாட்டிலும் படு சுட்டி. நாராயணன் ஓட்டுநராக பணிபுரிந்து வருகிறார். மைதிலி வீடுகளில் தூய்மை பணியில் ஈடுபடுவது மட்டும் அல்லாமல் ஆரம்ப அரசு சுகாதார நிலையம் ஒன்றில் பகுதி நேர பணியாளராக வேலை பார்த்து வருகிறார்.
கடந்த 2 மார்ச் அன்று நாராயணனும் மைதிலியும் வேலைக்கு சென்று உள்ளனர். வீட்டில் மூத்த மகளும் இளைய மகளும் இருந்து உள்ளனர். மாலை 4,30 மணி அளவில் மைதிலி வீட்டுக்கு வந்து பார்த்தபோது இளைய மகளை காணவில்லை. வட இந்தியர்கள் குழந்தைகளை கடத்துகிறார்கள் என்கிற வதந்தி அந்த பகுதியில் இருப்பதினால் குழந்தை கடத்த பட்டு இருப்பாளோ என்று பதட்டம் அடைந்த மைதிலி உறவினர்களோடும் தெரிந்தவர்களோடும் இணைந்து தேட ஆரம்பித்து உள்ளார். நாராயணனுக்கும் தகவல் சொல்லப்பட்டது. அவரும் வீட்டுக்கு வந்து உள்ளார். அவுட் போஸ்ட் காவல் நிலையத்தில் புகார் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. முத்தியால்பேட்டை காவல் நிலையத்திலும் புகார் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. காவல் கண்காணிப்பாளர் காவல் ஆய்வாளர் உள்ளிட்டோர் தேடி இருக்கின்றனர். அருகில் இருந்த வீடுகளில் கழிவறை தொட்டிகளில் குடி நீர் தொட்டிகளில் என்று எல்லா இடங்களிலும் தேடி இருக்கின்றனர். அங்கு இருந்த நான்கு சிசிடிவி காமிராக்களின் பதிவுகளை கைப்பற்றியும் ஆராய்ந்து உள்ளனர். நீதிக்காக மக்கள் சாலை மறியலில் ஈடுபட தடியடியும் நடத்தப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது.
உண்மையில் சிறுமியின் வீட்டிலிருந்து சுமார் 200 அடி தொலைவில்தான் சடலம் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டு இருக்கிறது. முதன்மை குற்றவாளியான விவேகானந்தன் சிறுமியின் பெற்றோர்களுக்கு நன்கு அறிமுகமானவர். பால் காரர் என்றுதான் அவரை சொல்லுகின்றனர். அன்று காலை தயிர் வாங்குவதற்கு விவேகானந்தன் வீட்டுக்குத்தான் சிறுமி சென்று இருக்கிறார். தயிர் வாங்கிவிட்டு வீட்டுக்கு வந்தும் இருக்கிறார். காலை சுமார் 11.30 மணி அளவில் சாப்பிட்டுவிட்டு சென்றவர் வீடு திரும்பவில்லை. அன்று காலை 11.40 முதல் – 12.12 க்குள் சிறுமி கொல்லப்பட்டு இருக்கிறார். அதன் பிறகு மது கடை ஒன்றில் விவேகானந்தன் மது அருந்துகிற சிசிடி காமிரா பதிவினை போலீசார் கைப்பற்றி உள்ளனர். மது அருந்திவிட்டு தன்னுடைய மகள் வீட்டுக்கு சென்று தங்கி இருக்கிறார் விவேகானந்தன். சிறுமி பாலியல் வன்புணர்வுக்கு உள்ளாக்கப்பட்டு உள்ளாரா என்கிற கோணத்தில் மருத்துவ பரிசோதனையும் நடந்து உள்ளது. அங்கு இருந்த முடி மற்றும் இதர பொருட்களை கண்டுபிடித்து டிஎன்ஏ பரிசோதனையும் நடந்து இருக்கிறது.
கருணாஸ் இந்த கொலையில் ஈடுபட்டானா? சடலத்தை மறைக்க விவேகானந்தனுக்கு உறுதுணையாக இருந்தானா? அதற்கு அவனுக்கு விலை பேசப்பட்டதா? இருவரும் சேர்ந்து கொலையை செய்தார்களா? பாலியல் வன்புணர்வு நடந்ததா? விவேகானந்தனுக்கும் கருணாசுக்கும் உள்ள தொடர்பு என்ன? என்கிற கோணத்திலும் போலீசார் விசாரணையில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர். தேங்காய் கயிறு கொண்டு சிறுமியை கட்டினோம் என்று கருணாஸ் கொடுத்த வாக்குமூலம் சரியாக பொருந்தி உள்ளது என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. குற்றவாளிகள் இருவரும் இணைந்து செய்த சதி குறித்து காவலில் எடுத்து போலீசார் விசாரிக்க வேண்டும்.
விவேகானந்தன் தங்கி இருந்த வீட்டின் ஓரம் இருந்த சாக்கடையில்தான் சிறுமி வீசப்பட்டு இருக்கிறார். அந்த வீட்டினை பார்த்தேன். பாழடைந்து தூர்நாற்றமுடன் இருந்தது. அந்த வீடு பாக பிரிவினை தகராறில் உள்ளது. ஏழு பேருக்கு பிரச்னை. அதனால் அந்த வீட்டை விட்டு யாரும் செல்லாமல் அங்கு உள்ளனர். வீட்டில் சுமார் 200 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட மது பாட்டில்கள் கிடந்தன. ஒருவர் மன நலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டு தனியாக பேசி கொண்டு இருக்கிறார். பார்ப்பதற்கு விகாரமாக இருந்தது.
கருணாஸ் கடுமையான கஞ்சா குடி. விவேகானந்தன் கடுமையான குடிகாரன். இருவரும் சேர்ந்து ஒரு குழந்தையை கொன்று விட்டனர். மோப்ப நாய், காவல் உயர் அதிகாரிகள் என்று பெரும் போலீஸ் படை இருந்தும் வீட்டுக்கு அருகாமையில் கிடந்த ஆர்த்தியின் உடலை போலீசார் கண்டுபிடிக்காமல் இருந்தது கடும் விமர்சனத்தை ஏற்படுத்தி இருக்கிறது. நம்முடையை போலீஸ் சிஸ்ட்டம் பலவீனமாக இருக்கிறது.
ஏற்கனவே பாண்டிச்சேரி மதுவினால் நிரம்பி வழிகிறது என்றால் தற்போது கஞ்சாவினால் சுடுகாடாக மாறிவருகிறது. நாராயணனும் மைதிலியும் நிலை குனிந்து போய் உள்ளனர். வழக்கின் போக்கு குறித்து கூட அவர்களுக்கு எதுவும் தெரியவில்லை. பார்ப்பதற்கே பரிதாபமாக இருக்கிறது. போலீசார் கைப்பற்றிய ஆதாரங்கள், சாட்சிகள் வலுவாக இருக்க வேண்டும். வழக்கின் நலன் கருதி சில உண்மைகளை இங்கே வெளியிட விரும்பவில்லை.
குழந்தைகள் மீது நடைபெற கூடிய 90 சதவீத குற்றங்கள் தெரிந்தவர்களால் நடத்தப்படுகிறது. இந்த சம்பவமும் விதிவிலக்கு அல்ல. போதையும் ஆணாதிக்க திமிரும் ஒரு குழந்தையை காவு வாங்கி இருக்கிறது.கொல்லப்படும்போது அந்த சிறுமி எப்படி எல்லாம் துடித்து இருப்பாள்? நினைத்து பார்க்கவே கனமாகி போகிறது மனசு.

Evidence, a non-governmental organisation, has condemned the attack on a Dalit youth and his family by caste Hindu members at Malayalathanpatti near Y.Othakadai in Madurai.
The victim, who was 17-year-old, had uploaded his photo on a social media platform. The photo he uploaded was morphed along with a 14-year-old girl belonging to a caste Hindu by unknown persons and was again uploaded on a social media platform.
Seeing the morphed photo, about seven persons related to the girl went to the victim’s house on February 3, 2024. They hit the victim, his father Kasiyaman and mother Muthumari using wooden logs and deadly weapons.
Despite the victim denying his role in the morphed photo, the accused choked his neck and hit him on his head and other body parts. Further, they left with the victim’s mobile phone threatening them that they will face severe consequences if they go to the police for registering a complaint.
The accused were M. Ramar (25) and P. Ashwin (20) of Kayampatti, Praveen (36) alias Ramapraveen and Madurai Bench of Madras High Court staff Predees of Vovalthottam and Dharma of Malayalathanpatti, said the NGO in a statement.
The accused were booked under sections 147 (Punishment of Rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 294 (b)(sings, recites or utter any obscene song, ballad or words, in or near any public place), 447 (Punishment for criminal trespass), 342 (Punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (Deals with punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon or means), 506(1)(Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities Act), Amendment Act, 2015.
A. Kathir of Evidence, said, the police should identify people who morphed the photo of the victim with the girl and arrest them. He also demanded ₹3 lakh as compensation to the victim and his family.

“Creation of a social justice department akin to health and education departments is essential to create a more just society,” said A. Kathir, founder of Evidence, an NGO based in Madurai.
He was speaking at a civil society consultation workshop on social justice and equity organised by Madras School of Social Work (MSSW) along with the Tamil Nadu government organised for various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in the district and surrounding districts, here on Tuesday.
CHENNAI : It would not be an exaggeration to say that Tamil Nadu leads the country in caste atrocities. However, accurate data has been hard to come by. For instance, in April 2023, the Rajya Sabha was informed that only three killings in the name of honour had been committed in TN from 2017 to 2021, with 25 such killings occuring nationwide in 2020 and 33 in 2021.
Meanwhile, NGO Evidence has identified at least 24 such murders in Tamil Nadu from 2021 to 2023. It seems likely that such murders are underreported with no transparency in how they are recorded. Without accurate data, how will states prevent such murders?
In TN, over the last 25 years, the accused in only six cases of murder in the name of caste honour – Shankar-Kousalya, Kannagi-Murugesan, Gokulraj, Amirthavalli, Kalpana, Abirami – were convicted of their crimes.
The sad reality in TN is that most such murders are covered up as deaths by suicide. In the case of a caste Hindu woman murdered for loving a Dalit man in Ramanathapuram, it took four years for the truth to see daylight. Strangely in TN, the police personnel, who are responsible for preventing caste atrocities and murders, join hands with casteist forces. Consider an incident in Madurai. A caste Hindu woman from Madurai married a Dalit youth from Tiruppur. The woman’s family convinced the couple that they would conduct a proper wedding for them and took her back to their home. For weeks the youth was unable to speak to her and finally lodged a complaint with the police. The police, however, told her family to convince the woman to give a statement saying she did not want to live with the youth. The family murdered the woman and burned her body. The trend of families murdering a female relative for marrying or being in a relationship with a Dalit has become a regular affair in TN.
According to a Madras High Court order, when an intercaste marriage happens, the district’s superintendent of police and officials from the Adi Dravidar and Social Welfare departments must ensure the safety of the couple; committees are to be formed to ensure this protection. However, only three districts in TN have formed such committees. The Supreme Court ordered that a law be enacted against such murders and issued guidelines to be followed till then. However, the guidelines are not followed in TN.
A Bill was proposed but never came up for discussion in Parliament. In 2022, Evidence met the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and handed over a draft legislation titled ‘The Freedom of Marriage and Association and Prohibition of Crimes in the Name of Honour Act 2022’ but there has been no progress on it.
A special law to handle these cases is particularly required as when a caste Hindu is murdered for loving or marrying a Dalit, the case cannot be registered under the SC/ST Act. The proposed legislation would still consider such a murder a caste crime.
Casteist persons want to control a woman’s body as they see it as a means to perpetuate their caste. But if two consenting adults wish to marry, none has the power to stop the marriage. TN leads the country in ‘jathi maruppu thirumanam’ (marriages that deny caste) and social justice. If the state enacts legislation against killings in the name of honour, it will lead the way for the rest of the country.
